Secure Access from Small Office Locations
Securing thin edge locations, such as very small offices, isn’t commonly discussed as part of campus or branch security. Yet a thin edge location can be an entry point to the corporate network for malware or ransomware. With the rise of the hybrid workforce, many users work from thin edge locations like satellite offices and home offices. Other Wi-Fi-enabled thin edge locations include sales offices, dentist offices, retail stores, construction sites, auto shops, gyms, shopping center kiosks with point-of-sale terminals, and many IoT/OT locations. In short, thin edge sites can be found in all sizes of businesses and across all kinds of industries.
Many organizations cannot deploy on-premises, dedicated firewalls to secure all their thin edge locations. They often have limited budgets and lack local IT staff to deploy and manage IT infrastructure on-premises at small remote sites. In addition, it may not be possible to install agents to secure all endpoints such as IoTs like security cameras, office printers, and bring-yourown-device (BYOD) devices.
