Elan Alvey

Senior Industrial Consultant, Dragos, Inc.

Prior to joining Dragos, Elan started his IT journey while active-duty Navy serving onboard two destroyers and a satellite communication station. Elan then moved into government contracting where he spent two years working with the Air Force, one year in Iraq supporting counter-intelligence collections platforms and intel report creations. Elan spent the next year supporting the National Center for Credibility Assessment with polygraph equipment repairs and installations as well as associated infrastructure. The following five years, Elan spent supporting a Navy intelligence and threat sharing platform that integrated with air, surface, and subsurface combatants. Elan moved away from the government sector and IT and joined a regional power company in Kentucky as an OT Engineer. Initial duties included NERC/CIP compliance eventually moving into Gas SCADA to start preparing the environment to meet compliance of TSA SD1/2 and strengthen relationships in the IT/OT gap.

Markus Mueller is a Principal Industrial Consultant, at the industrial cyber security company Dragos, Inc. and serves as the primary subject matter expert with customers to perform architecture assessments, network vulnerability assessments, consequence-driven modeling, etc. of their industrial environment. Prior to joining Dragos, Markus led the operational technology team as Senior Manager OT for Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp. In this role, he was responsible for the security, compliance, and operations of the OT systems including electric, gas, and water utilities as well as power generation. Before leading the OT team, Markus was the OT lead for multiple large utility acquisitions and the creation of two NERC CIP programs. In his career, Markus has focused on ICS security around renewable energy, grid automation, and advanced distribution management systems. He is passionate about working with operational teams to make recommendations that are secure and usable.

Crane Hassold is the Director of Threat Intelligence at Abnormal Security, an email security company focused on using behavioral AI to stop business email compromise, supply chain fraud, and other socially-engineered attacks. He leads an intelligence team responsible for researching enterprise-focused threats and serves as the Head of Abnormal Intelligence—a community platform that provides unique insight into the attacks targeting customers each day. He worked in similar roles at Agari and PhishLabs, and prior to moving to the private sector in 2015, Crane served as an Analyst at the FBI for more than 11 years, spending most of his time in the Behavioral Analysis Units. While there, he provided support to the intelligence community and law enforcement partners against national security adversaries and serial criminals. In 2012, Crane helped create the FBI’s Cyber Behavioral Analysis Center, which takes an asymmetric approach to examining cyber threats by combining the traditional behavioral concepts used for decades in the violent crime world with technical expertise to gain a holistic understanding of threat actor TTPs.

Jim Hempstead heads the North American Project & Infrastructure Finance Group, managing 35 analysts who cover almost 800 issuers with $2 trillion in debt across the electric, gas and water utility sectors, municipal transportation including airports, seaports and toll roads, and all types of project financing structures. Jim acts as a rating chair across all segments of the franchise, is a member of the Infrastructure Finance Franchise Committee and a member of the Global Infrastructure Focus Editorial Board.
