On Aug. 8 and 9, Information Security Media Group held the New York Fraud & Breach Prevention Summit, its eighth summit of the year on the ever-evolving topic of cybersecurity.

ISMG's approach to developing sessions for all of its conferences is to focus on real-world problems facing CISOs, fraud and risk teams, and security and IT professionals. The sessions are geared toward personable, discussion-based and succinct descriptions of current risks and potential solutions.

With more than 400 attendees at the New York event, it's clear that interest in timely insights from information security experts is, indeed, high.

Speakers

In the general sessions and the targeted tracks, speakers had the opportunity to reach audiences interested in fraud prevention, incident response and data breach detection and response. High-profile speakers included former AT&T Vice President and CISO Ed Amoroso, Hearst Vice President and CISO David Hahn and Gartner Research Vice President and Distinguished Analyst Avivah Litan.

While the keynote sessions and panel discussions were filled to overflowing, the track sessions were more intimate, enabling security experts to hone in on a topic with a responsive audience. The discussions spawned during Q/A sessions created an encompassing sense of engagement.

Speed Meetings

While the entire summit offered a productive exchange of ideas, a 45-minute speed-meeting session, in particular, gave attendees a chance to compare notes with their peers on timely topics.

Attendees could participate in discussions at several tables on topics that included cyber insurance, cloud security, payments fraud and the General Data Protection Regulation in the EU. At each speed session, an event speaker or technology company representative provided expert insights.

Tabletop Exhibits

The summit also offered attendees the opportunity to meet with industry-leading information security companies displaying their products and services in the exhibit area. Because the displays were available throughout the conference near the educational sessions, attendees could interact at their convenience with these vendors.

Video Interviews

On a promenade overlooking Times Square, Tom Field, Tracy Kitten, Eric Chabrow and Joan Goodchild of ISMG's editorial team conducted one-on-one video interviews with technology company leaders and other experts.

These interviews will be available on all of ISMG's websites as a valuable year-round resource that security professionals can turn to when seeking expert insights.

Roundtables

In addition, ISMG hosted four invitation-only roundtable dinners plus a luncheon, each with a corporate sponsor. A member of the ISMG editorial team moderated each session, engaging the guests, who work in leadership roles in various sectors, in a targeted discussion of a timely subject.

Clearly, the summit offered many opportunities for information security professionals, technology solution providers and other thought leaders to engage in a dialogue on key issues and come away with new ideas for tackling their challenges as they strive to protect sensitive information.

ISMG will host its next summit Sept. 12-13 in Toronto. In November, ISMG will host a New York event focusing in on healthcare data security. More information can be found here or by downloading the official ISMG Events App.
