He creates a unique security awareness program for employees every year, and the watchword is "fun."
"Everyone likes to have a good laugh, so I add humor as well," Evans said. "And once we incorporate humor, we incorporate the case studies, and we show them certain principles and practices. We have been successful thus far in changing the mindset."
Several years ago, he expanded that effort to the community by starting a podcast on cybersecurity with his daughter. ."After mentoring other individuals, I have firsthand mentored my daughter and passed information on to her so that she when she moves into the field of cybersecurity, she also would have a head start. It's an exciting project. It's exciting working with her. We are having fun along the way, as we learn together and as we educate other people."
In this video interview with Information Security Media Group, conducted as part of the CyberEdBoard's ongoing Profiles in Leadership series, Evans also discussed:
- His career path from programmer to cybersecurity leader and how to make a successful transition;
- The importance of training and continuous development;
- How to take security awareness to the next level.
Evans has more than 20 years of experience in cybersecurity and IT governance, directing comprehensive cybersecurity initiatives, enhancing IT infrastructure resilience, implementing strategic risk management solutions, designing robust cybersecurity frameworks, executing effective governance structures, and advancing business innovations.
