In-Depth Coverage of News From HIMSS
Annual Conference Offers a Wealth of Privacy, Security Content
The HIMSS workshop, featuring four expert speakers, will dive into such topics as regulatory issues, including the HITECH Act and HIPAA; risk assessments; breach notification; security technologies and controls; privacy issues and Payment Card Industry standards.
"In addition to receiving the most updated information regarding healthcare regulations and tips for handling the challenges they create, the workshop will offer plenty of opportunities for the attendees to share their experiences and recommended solutions," says Tom Walsh, a security consultant and one of the featured speakers. "Each year, we try to address different privacy and security topics, offering speakers with a broad range of backgrounds."

I attended last year's workshop and found its content to be top-notch. And the audience did, indeed, chime in with their own real-world insights.
HealthcareInfoSecurity.com will offer timely coverage of this year's workshop as well as other education sessions dealing with privacy, security and risk management issues.
This marks my 18th year covering this important event. This year, I'm looking forward to a Feb. 21 session offering insights on social networking policies from the Mayo Clinic. Also, on Feb. 23, David Blumenthal, M.D., National Coordinator for Health IT, will make one of his final presentations before stepping down from the role. And members of his team will provide several updates on their many projects, including privacy and security standards for health information exchange.
In addition to news stories, we'll provide podcast interviews with security experts, IT leaders at healthcare organizations, government regulators and others. Plus, we'll offer blogs with observations from the massive event, which should attract more than 25,000 attendees.
If you're attending the HIMSS privacy and security workshop, I look forward to meeting you there. If you won't be attending the HIMSS conference this year, we'll share enough of the news and views that you'll feel like you've experienced the best of the event.
