HIMSS 2013 will feature hundreds of educational sessions and workshops, including dozens that will address timely health information privacy and security issues. Plus its enormous exhibit hall, with about 1,200 companies represented, will offer a look at the very latest technologies.
High on the agenda for many health data security and privacy professionals this year will be sessions about the recently released HIPAA Omnibus Rule, as well as the HITECH Act's incentive program for the meaningful use of electronic health records.
Leaders from the Department of Health and Human Services, including Farzad Mostashari, M.D., who heads the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT, and Leon Rodriguez, director of the Office for Civil Rights, will be among the featured speakers.
Besides government officials, there will be plenty of privacy and security experts at HIMSS eager to share their insights on topics that include safeguarding patient portals, developing mobile device policies and planning for secure health information exchange.
News Editor Howard Anderson and I will be at the conference talking to the experts so we can share their insights with you. So if you can't make it to HIMSS this year - or you can't make it to every relevant session - you can rely on HealthcareInfoSecurity to provide in-depth coverage through interviews, articles and blogs.
